The Johnny Otis Show Ring-A-Ling (Capitol 1958) 45 RPM
Ring-A-Ling is the b-side to Johnny Otis’ biggest single Willy And The Hand Jive. During the late 50’s Johnny Otis was really hitting his stride musically. He was signed to the major label Capitol, which allowed for a much larger listening audience through the major distribution channels. On Paper this would be considered Johnny’s most successful time, as he was making lots of money and had a national audience to perform to. Johnny Otis however, felt that he was losing his way musically. The songs for Capitol, while being great are also very formulaic, and Johnny soon tired of this “Rock-N-Roll” music, opting to go back to traditional rhythm and blues forms.
